Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) Photography & New Media at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) is designed for creative students who want to transform their passion for photography into a professional career in today's digital image industry. Combining artistic exploration with technical expertise, the programme teaches students how to create, analyse, and communicate visual stories across photography, digital media, and emerging technologies.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

During the first year, students build a strong foundation in visual communication, design principles, and photographic practice. Through modules such as General Design Foundations, Photographic Key Concepts, and introductory visual culture studies, students learn how to develop creative ideas, understand composition, and master the fundamentals of image-making.

Year 2

In the second year, students expand their technical and conceptual skills while exploring different photographic genres and media formats. Modules and projects such as Photography as Narrative, Applied Photographic Practice, and advanced studio work help students develop personal visual languages while working with cameras, lighting, analogue processes, and digital workflows.

The final year focuses on professional practice, portfolio development, and industry engagement. Students undertake advanced projects, internships or a study-abroad semester, while refining their expertise in image production, editing, publishing, and emerging AI-supported creative tools, culminating in a final portfolio that showcases their individual artistic direction.

  • Training in both digital and analogue workflows, including image production, editing, and post-production processes.
  • Dedicated facilities including photo studios, print and scan labs, darkrooms, and Mac computer labs (MacPools).
  • Project-based modules such as Photography as Narrative and Applied Photographic Practice, where students create professional portfolios and visual storytelling projects.
  • Opportunities to participate in external and university exhibition projects, helping students showcase their work to wider audiences.
