Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation Design

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at Zayed University is a four-year creative arts degree that equips students with professional design, visual communication, and media skills used in print, branding, packaging, web, and advertising contexts. Curriculum structure

Year 1

In the first year, students lay the groundwork for professional design practice with core modules such as Fundamentals of Art & Design Studies, Principles of Design, and Basic Design. Through these courses, students explore visual elements like shape, colour, composition, and space, learning how to translate ideas into visual form across both traditional and digital media. Complementary studies in Introduction to Art History and History of Art help them understand cultural and historical influences on visual communication, while studio workshops foster hands-on experimentation.

Year 2

In the second year, learners build technical and conceptual expertise with units like Graphic Design I, Typography I, and Designing for the Web I, where they apply visual theory to real-world communication problems. These courses teach precise use of typography and digital layout, while web design modules introduce responsive and interactive considerations for digital audiences. Students also engage in Research Methods for Artists and Designers, developing critical inquiry skills that inform creative problem-solving and project documentation.

Year 3

By the third year, students advance to Graphic Design II, Packaging Design, and Information Design, where they tackle comprehensive briefs that combine narrative, user interaction, and visual clarity. Complex projects require them to integrate conceptual thinking with practical production workflows—planning, prototyping, and presenting solutions to audience needs. Courses such as New Media Design introduce dynamic and interactive media, expanding their skill sets to include motion and multimedia.

Year 4

In the final year, students synthesise cumulative learning through Graphic Design III, Professional Practice, and a Senior Research Seminar complemented by Senior Project work, which culminates in a portfolio of professional-level design solutions. The curriculum also includes Internship experiences that embed students in real client, agency, or studio environments, fostering workplace readiness. Electives and cultural courses such as Material Culture of the UAE broaden contextual and cultural fluency.
