Curriculum structure

Year 1:
In the first year, students begin with foundational art and design courses such as Principles of Design, Drawing I, and Introduction to Visual Arts, which introduce the basics of form, composition, and visual thinking. These modules also involve exploratory studio work and practice in various media, helping learners discover their creative voice while gaining confidence with materials and tools. This phase also includes general education courses that strengthen critical thinking and visual literacy, laying the groundwork for more advanced artistic study.

Year 2:
In the second year, learners deepen their technical and conceptual skills with courses like Painting I, 3-D Design/Sculpture I, and Digital Photography I where they explore colour, space, texture, and image capture. With History of Art and Arts of the Modern World, students also begin to contextualise their practice within global traditions and cultural movements, reflecting on how art communicates meaning across time and place. This combination enriches studio work with both critical perspective and hands-on experimentation.

Year 3:
The third year advances creative practice through Painting II, Sculpture II, and Digital Imaging or Video Art, encouraging students to integrate multiple media and pursue sustained artistic projects. Electives in areas such as Printmaking or Visual Theory allow personalisation and deeper engagement with specific interests, while coursework like Research Methods for Artists and Designers enhances students’ ability to frame and articulate conceptual intentions. Projects from this year often culminate in peer reviews and critiques that simulate professional art-making contexts.

Year 4:
In the final year, students focus on professional studies and synthesis with a Capstone Project or Senior Exhibition that showcases their cumulative skills in visual arts, alongside modules like Professional Practice and Creative Entrepreneurship that prepare them for careers or postgraduate paths. Students produce a portfolio of work that reflects their artistic direction, engage with gallery practices, and may complete Internships or collaborative projects, bridging academic study with real-world art and cultural environments.
