4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Manipal Academy of Higher Education Dubai

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Interior Design at Manipal Academy of Higher Education Dubai is a creative, studio-driven degree that prepares you to design interior spaces that are functional, expressive, and people-centred. It’s ideal for students who enjoy combining artistic creativity with practical problem-solving and want to build strong technical and conceptual design skills from day one.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

Your first year focuses on building a strong foundation in interior design and visual thinking. Through courses such as Interior Design Fundamentals I & II, Interior Graphics I & II, Material and Construction I & II, and History of World Art and Interior Design, you learn how spaces are formed, how materials behave, and how to communicate ideas clearly through drawing and basic digital tools.

Year 2

In the second year, you begin applying design principles to more defined interior projects. Modules like Interior Design Studio I & II, Furniture Design and Detailing, Material and Construction III, and User Study Processes in Design help you understand user needs, furniture integration, and how interior elements come together within real spatial contexts.

Year 3

Year three develops professional-level design thinking and project control. With Interior Design Studio III & IV, Design Dissertation, Landscape Design for Interior Spaces, Estimation and Specification, and Project Management, you tackle complex design briefs while learning how interiors are planned, costed, managed, and delivered in professional practice.

Year 4

Your final year is dedicated to refining your professional identity. Through Thesis, Interior Portfolio Development, Internship, and advanced technical electives such as Working Drawings II, you complete a major capstone project, gain real industry exposure, and graduate with a strong portfolio ready for the design profession.

Interior Design graduates benefit from a studio-intensive curriculum, industry exposure, and portfolio-focused assessment that support employability across the UAE and international design markets.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At Manipal Academy of Higher Education Dubai, interior design is learned through continuous studio practice that mirrors real professional workflows. From the first semester, you work on hands-on design briefs, receive regular critiques, and develop ideas using both manual and digital tools—so theory is always applied in practice.

This practical learning approach is built into the programme through:

  • Studio-led design every year: Interior Design Studios form the backbone of the degree, where you tackle residential, commercial, and concept-driven projects that build spatial planning, concept development, and presentation skills.

  • Materials & construction labs: Coursework integrates material exploration, detailing, and construction logic so you understand how interiors are actually built and specified.

  • Digital design tools: You work with industry-relevant software for drafting, modelling, and visualisation alongside hand drawing and model-making.

  • Design research & user studies: Structured research methods help you understand user behaviour, cultural context, and functional requirements before designing solutions.

  • Critiques and juries: Regular pin-ups and reviews develop your ability to explain design decisions and respond confidently to professional feedback.

  • Internship experience: A dedicated internship exposes you to professional design studios and real project environments.

  • Portfolio development: Each studio adds to a growing body of work, ensuring you graduate with a strong, curated design portfolio.

By graduation, you’ve practised interior design across multiple contexts—conceptual, technical, and professional.
