Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

British University in Dubai BUiD

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at The British University in Dubai (BUiD) equips students with the skills to design, analyse and improve mechanical systems used across industries such as aerospace, automotive, energy, robotics and smart manufacturing. It suits students with strong interests in mathematics, physics and problem-solving who want to work on innovation, sustainability and cutting-edge technologies while gaining practical engineering experience.

Curriculum structure

Year 1:
In the first year, students build essential foundations with mathematics and physics, developing analytical thinking and engineering reasoning early on. They also learn basic engineering principles and introductory technical skills that support future professional coursework.

Year 2:
During the second year, students progress into core mechanical subjects such as Thermodynamics, Strength of Materials, and Fluid Mechanics, which teach how energy, materials and fluids behave in mechanical systems. Laboratory work reinforces theory with hands-on analysis of solid and fluid behaviour.

Year 3:
The third year deepens expertise with modules like Heat Transfer, Machine Element Design, and Manufacturing Processes, where students learn how heat and energy move through systems, how mechanical components are designed, and how industrial manufacturing operates. Students also gain exposure to Sensors, Instrumentation and Control and begin applying automation concepts.

Year 4:
In the final year, students undertake a Mechanical Engineering Internship to gain real-world experience and complete a Mechanical Engineering Design Graduation Project that synthesises multidisciplinary knowledge and practical skills. Elective options such as Renewable Energy, Engineering Management and Gas Turbines allow students to tailor their studies toward specialised interests.
