BS Mechanical Engineering

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wollongong in Dubai is a four-year programme that develops students’ ability to design, analyse, test, and build mechanical systems used in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, robotics, advanced manufacturing, energy and automation. Curriculum structure

Year 1:
In the common first year, students build essential foundations through units such as Engineering Computing and Analysis, Fundamentals of Engineering Mechanics, Materials in Design, Engineering Mathematics, Physics for Engineers, and Electrical Systems. These subjects develop analytical reasoning, basic mechanics, materials understanding and introductory computing skills that underpin all engineering contexts, while projects and labs introduce engineering practices and teamwork. 

Year 2:
The second year deepens core mechanical engineering knowledge with subjects such as Mechanics of Solids, Engineering Fluid Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering Design, Machine Dynamics, and Thermodynamics of Engineering Systems. Students learn how forces act on materials and components, how fluids behave in systems, how energy is transferred and transformed, and begin tackling real design challenges using industry-relevant methods. 

Year 3:
In the third year, students progress to Dynamics of Engineering Systems, Manufacturing Engineering Principles, Heat Transfer and Aerodynamics, Control of Machines and Processes, and Sustainable Energy Technologies. These modules enable learners to analyse dynamic systems, understand manufacturing processes, design for thermal performance, and consider sustainability and control elements in mechanical engineering solutions. 

Year 4:
The final year emphasises professional application and synthesis with advanced topics such as Finite Element Methods in Engineering, Managing Engineering Projects, a substantial Thesis / Capstone Project, and a Professional Experience placement. Students integrate technical knowledge into large-scale design and research activities, demonstrating readiness for engineering practice and problem-solving in real-world professional contexts.
