Program Overview

The MBBS program at Gulf Medical University is designed to train you into a confident, compassionate, and highly skilled doctor through an integrated blend of medical science and real clinical experience. This program is ideal for students who are passionate about healthcare and want to learn in a modern, patient-focused medical environment.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Introduction to Medicine
In your first year, you begin your journey into medicine with courses that introduce both the science and the human side of healthcare. You study Medical Communication Skills, Early Patient Contact, and foundational biomedical sciences that cover anatomy, physiology, and how the body works. This year helps you understand what it truly means to be a doctor.

Years 2 & 3 – Integrated Medical Sciences
During these years, your learning is organised around body systems rather than isolated subjects. You study modules such as Cardiovascular, Respiratory, and Endocrine Systems, where anatomy, physiology, pathology, and clinical thinking are taught together. You also develop practical abilities through Professional Skills and Work-based Learning, which introduce you to real patient care.

Years 4 & 5 – Clinical Clerkships
In the final two years, you move into hospital-based training. You rotate through Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Family Medicine, and Emergency Medicine, gaining hands-on experience with real patients. These clinical years prepare you for internship, licensing exams, and professional medical practice.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At Gulf Medical University, you don’t wait until the final years to start practising medicine — you begin building real clinical skills from the start. • Early patient contact, allowing you to interact with real patients from your first year and build confidence in communication and professional behaviour.

  • Work-based learning in ambulatory care, giving you exposure to outpatient clinics and primary healthcare settings.

  • Hospital-based clinical clerkships in medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, emergency medicine, and family medicine during your senior years.

  • Research and group projects, where you work with classmates to investigate medical problems, analyse data, and present scientific findings.

  • Access to GMU’s academic health system, including teaching hospitals and clinical training sites that provide a wide range of patient cases and medical specialities.
