This six-year program is carefully designed to prepare students for the full scope of medical practice by combining strong foundational sciences, early clinical exposure, and patient-centered care. The program follows an integrated curriculum that promotes critical thinking, ethical practice, and lifelong learning—skills essential for future physicians in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

Curriculum Structure
The MD program at MBRU offers a competency-based, spiral curriculum that allows students to revisit key concepts with increasing complexity and clinical relevance over the years. The structure includes:

Phase 1: Foundation of Medical Sciences – Focuses on biomedical sciences, professionalism, communication, and early patient contact.
Phase 2: Integrated Clinical Sciences – Builds on clinical reasoning with exposure to internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and obstetrics/gynecology.
Phase 3: Clinical Clerkships – Full-time clinical placements in partner hospitals, focusing on real-world patient care and interprofessional teamwork.
Capstone Research Project – Students engage in a research experience culminating in a final report or presentation, reflecting the program’s commitment to evidence-based medicine.

Accreditation
MBRU is licensed and accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the UAE Ministry of Education. The MD program is also listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, confirming its recognition for international medical licensing and postgraduate education.

Campus Location
MBRU is located in the heart of Dubai Healthcare City, providing students access to world-class clinical training sites like Rashid Hospital, Latifa Hospital, and Al Jalila Children’s Hospital. The campus environment encourages innovation, collaboration, and access to top-tier medical facilities and faculty.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

The MD program at MBRU is grounded in experiential, patient-centered learning, providing multiple opportunities for practical and personal growth:

Early Clinical Exposure – From the first year, students interact with real patients under guided supervision, building confidence and competence.
Community Healthcare Projects – Students participate in outreach programs that address public health issues in the UAE and the region.
Student Research Opportunities – Through the Summer Research Program and faculty-led projects, students explore global health, clinical trials, and medical innovation.
Interprofessional Education (IPE) – MBRU encourages collaboration with peers from nursing, dental, and other health disciplines, mirroring real-world healthcare environments.

Progression & Future Opportunities

EMREE Exam
• The Emirates Medical Residency Entrance Exam (EMREE) is required for MBRU MD graduates who wish to apply for government residency programs in the UAE such as DHA, HAAD, or MOH
• Conducted by the Ministry of Health & Prevention (MOHAP) or affiliated bodies like the National Institute for Health Specialties
• It is mandatory for entry into government-run residency programs
• The exam is highly competitive, with priority often given to UAE nationals, but open to MBRU MD graduates and eligible expatriates
• EMREE assesses clinical knowledge across specialties, including internal medicine, surgery, OBGYN, pediatrics, psychiatry, and biostatistics.

IMT Training (Internal Medicine Training)
• MBRU’s Internal Medicine Residency Program is a four-year structured training, accredited by the National Institute for Health Specialties, Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, and the Arab Board of Health Specializations
• Though not labeled “IMT,” it aligns closely with UK‑style training standards and offers strong preparation for MRCP (UK) eligibility
• Completion of the program along with passing MRCP exams makes candidates eligible for a DHA specialist license
• Located within Dubai’s DHA system but supervised similarly to NHS-style practice in UK-aligned private institutions

Royal College Exam Pathway (MRCEM, MRCP, MRCS, etc.)
Royal College exams including MRCP, MRCEM, MRCS are regularly offered in the UAE
• MBRU MD graduates can pursue these while employed in clinical roles, paving the way to GMC registration in the UK or specialist recognition in UAE, provided relevant hands-on experience in the UAE healthcare system is completed
• These exams are balanced alongside residency training; graduates often combine clinical service with Royal College preparation

University-Based Master’s Programs
• Several UAE institutions such as MBRU itself, UAE University, and Gulf Medical University offer advanced postgraduate programs tailored to MBRU MD graduates
• Options include MSc in Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Research, Healthcare Management, or Medical Education
• Programs range from research-intensive to clinical and academic-focused, enabling graduates to specialize or transition into academic or leadership roles in healthcare
