6 Years On Campus Bachelors Program
RAK Medical and Health Sciences University (RAKMHSU) offers a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree meant to provide students with a good foundation in medical science as well as the clinical practice required to become competent healthcare professionals. The MBBS degree is well-suited to bridge theory learning with practice in medicine, thus qualifying students to practice as licensed doctors in the UAE and beyond.
Curriculum Structure
The MBBS program at RAKMHSU is founded on a six-year structure, two years of pre-clinical education and four years of clinical education, with a mandatory one-year internship.
Students begin with pre-clinical core medical sciences like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, and pharmacology, before moving on to clinical subjects of more advanced nature like internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, and family medicine.
The curriculum also entails learning of community medicine, preparing students to address public health problems and perform adequately in complex healthcare settings.
In addition to lectures and labs, students also participate in problem-based learning (PBL) sessions and hospital rotations to get active exposure to real clinical cases.
Accreditation
The MBBS course is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education's Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) to confirm that the curriculum and training remain on national and international academic standards. The university is also listed under the World Directory of Medical Schools, a requirement for being eligible to write licensing exams in the US (USMLE) and UK (PLAB).
Campus Location
RAKMHSU has its location in Ras Al Khaimah emirate, United Arab Emirates. The modern laboratory facilities, clinical simulation centers, lecture theatres, and its own teaching hospital are accommodated in the campus, offering a diverse learning experience where students can gain both academic and practical clinical experience.
One of the strongest points of RAKMHSU's MBBS program is the focus on practical exposure.
The students are provided with early exposure to practical experience through practice at RAK Hospital and attached health centers.
They are also provided with the option of doing medical research studies, with the possibility of presenting the results at conferences or publishing in journals.
Clinical training is exposed to real patient care under the supervision of experienced teachers, and students are generally engaged in outreach activities, health camps, and awareness programs, with empathy and experiential learning.
Internship and rotation are conducted across different departments of medicine, exposing them to all-around exposure prior to graduation.
EMREE Exam
Stands for Emirates Medical Residency Entrance Exam.
Conducted by MOHAP (Ministry of Health & Prevention) in the UAE.
This exam is mandatory for entry into government residency programs under DHA, HAAD, and MOH authorities.
It is a competitive exam, open to both UAE nationals and eligible expatriate medical graduates, including those from RAKMHSU.
The exam assesses clinical knowledge related to your chosen specialty, and passing it is essential to secure residency training positions in the UAE public healthcare system.
IMT Training (Internal Medicine Training)
A UK-aligned structured residency training program available in the UAE, including some private hospitals.
Conducted under NHS-style supervision, this program is ideal for those who wish to pursue MRCP (UK) eligibility while training locally.
Successful completion of the IMT program, along with passing the MRCP exams, makes candidates eligible for the DHA specialist license.
It’s a strong option for RAKMHSU graduates aiming to follow a UK clinical training pathway without leaving the UAE.
The program is competitive and involves a rigorous selection process including interviews and assessments.
Royal College Exam Pathway (MRCEM, MRCP, MRCS, etc.)
UK Royal College exams are regularly held in the UAE, providing RAKMHSU graduates the opportunity to prepare and sit for these certifications locally.
This pathway supports progression toward full GMC registration in the UK or specialist recognition in the UAE, provided the candidate gains relevant clinical experience within the UAE healthcare system.
Graduates can combine clinical work in hospitals with preparation for these exams, making it a practical route to advanced qualifications and recognition.
University-Based Master’s Programs
Various UAE institutions, such as Mohammed Bin Rashid University (MBRU), UAE University, and Gulf Medical University, offer postgraduate degrees suitable for MBBS graduates from RAKMHSU.
Examples include MSc programs in Cardiovascular Medicine, Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, among others.
These programs may be academic or clinically oriented, often involving research components.
Pursuing a master’s degree is valuable for those looking to advance their careers into academic roles, specialized clinical practice, or healthcare leadership positions.
