Bachelor of Science in Midwifery

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

RAK Medical and Health Sciences University

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) at RAK College of Pharmacy is a 4½-year undergraduate degree that prepares students to become skilled pharmacists equipped with scientific knowledge and clinical expertise in medication therapy management. It suits students interested in healthcare, medicine and patient-centred practice, combining pharmaceutical sciences with medicine use, patient care and community health education.

Curriculum structure

Year 1:
In the first year, students build a foundation in biomedical and general sciences with units such as General Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Information Technology for Pharmacy alongside foundational pharmacy communications courses like English for Health Sciences and Health Sciences Communication in English. These courses develop scientific literacy, technological competency, and communication skills necessary for understanding later pharmacy-specific knowledge and interacting with patients and healthcare professionals.

Year 2:
The second year introduces core pharmaceutical sciences, with subjects such as Pharmaceutics I, Pharmacognosy I, Pharmaceutical Chemistry I, and Biostatistics & Research Methodology, where students learn the science of drug formulation, natural product pharmacology, and chemical analysis of drug substances. Clinically related modules begin to bridge science with practice, teaching how medications are designed, analysed and integrated into health care.

Year 3:
In the third year, students deepen their professional pharmacy training with advanced units like Pharmaceutics II (Industrial Pharmacy II), Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacy I, Medicinal Chemistry II, and Pharmaceutics Microbiology. These modules focus on how drugs are processed in the body, how drug action affects disease, and how pharmacists assess, prepare and manage medications in both community and clinical settings.

Year 4 & Practice School:
The final phase of the programme integrates advanced clinical and professional practice with Clinical Pharmacy II, Pharmacy Practice, Therapeutics and Patient Care, and an extended Practice School (six months of structured experiential training in hospitals, clinics or community pharmacies). This provides real-world exposure where students apply theory to patient-centred care, medication review, and multidisciplinary healthcare teamwork.

Focus areas (in a string):

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

The program's practical training is structured around these specific components:

  • Specialized Pharmacy Laboratories: Students train in core labs including the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Lab, Pharmaceutics & Biopharmaceutics Lab, Pharmacology & Toxicology Lab, and Pharmacy Practice & Simulation Lab.

  • Simulation and Clinical Training: The Pharmacy Practice & Simulation Lab provides a realistic environment for dispensing, patient counseling, and clinical skills practice. The University Teaching Pharmacy offers direct experiential learning in a supervised public-facing setting.

  • Mandatory Experiential Placements: Students complete structured Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) in various settings, including community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, and clinical rotations in GMU's affiliated Thumbay University Hospital.

  • Industry-Standard Software and Equipment: Labs are equipped with instruments like HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography), dissolution test apparatus, and tablet compression machines. Students use pharmacy management software for dispensing and inventory control simulations.

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduates of RAK Medical & Health Sciences University's BPharm program at RAK College of Pharmacy excel in community/hospital pharmacy, industry, and research, with strong employability through clinical rotations and practice school. They master pharmaceutical sciences, patient care, and evidence-based practice for UAE healthcare. Typical job roles include community pharmacist, hospital pharmacist, clinical pharmacist, and drug safety officer.

Progression & Future Opportunities:

  • Clinical rotations in hospitals and practice school (6 months) for hands-on placements.

  • High placement rates; UAE pharmacists earn AED 10,000–25,000 monthly.

  • Partnerships with local hospitals for training; accreditation supports global licensure; outcomes include ethics and lifelong learning.

Further Academic Progression: Pursue MS in Clinical Pharmacy or Pharmaceutical Sciences at RAKCOP, advancing to PhD for research/clinical leadership.
