4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

RAK Medical and Health Sciences University

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Ras Al Khaimah Medical and Health Sciences University (RAKMHSU) – RAK College of Nursing is a 4-year undergraduate degree that combines theory with extensive clinical practice to prepare students for professional nursing practice in hospitals and community health settings. It suits students who want to become registered nurses with strong competencies in holistic patient care, clinical assessment, evidence-based practice and healthcare leadership within the UAE and internationally.

Curriculum structure

Year 1 — Foundations in Nursing & Healthcare

In the first year, students focus on core foundations with courses that include Foundations of Nursing I and Nutrition & Health, alongside general education modules such as English, Human Biology, and communication skills. This stage introduces the nursing profession, basic patient care principles, human anatomy and physiology context, and strengthens communication and academic skills essential for progression.

Year 2 — Core Skills & Clinical Application

In the second year, students build practical nursing skills and scientific understanding through modules like Health Assessment & Physical Examination, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology for Nursing, and continued Clinical Practicum activities. These courses deepen clinical reasoning and patient assessment capabilities, integrating theory with supervised hands-on practice to prepare students for complex care environments.

Year 3 — Specialised Nursing Care

By the third year, the curriculum emphasizes Adult Health Nursing, Maternal-Newborn Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, and Mental Health Nursing, supported by clinical rotations in affiliated hospitals. Students apply nursing processes across diverse patient populations and begin to refine critical thinking, cultural competence, and evidence-based care delivery.

Year 4 — Integration, Leadership & Professional Practice

In the final year, students consolidate learning with advanced topics such as Community & Public Health Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, Nursing Leadership and Management, and extended Clinical Practice placements. This prepares them to integrate clinical expertise with leadership, ethical practice, and healthcare system awareness as they transition into registered nurse roles.
