Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Al Ain University of Science and Technology

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at Al Ain University is a four-and-a-half-year integrated undergraduate degree that equips students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in pharmaceutical sciences, clinical practice, therapeutics and professional pharmacy services. It suits students who are passionate about healthcare, medication therapy and patient care, preparing them for careers in community and hospital pharmacies, drug development, regulatory affairs and allied health sectors.

Curriculum structure

Year 1:
In the first year, students build core scientific foundations with general education and introductory pharmacy modules such as Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry I & II, Biology, English Communication, General Physics, and Computer Skills. These units develop strong analytical, communication and technical competencies while introducing students to the pharmaceutical sciences that underpin drug action and formulation.

Year 2:
The second year focuses on core biomedical and pharmaceutical science subjects including Pharmaceutics I & II, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, and beginning professional pharmacy courses like Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Care. Here students learn how medications are formulated, analysed and integrated into patient care, while strengthening laboratory-based skills in drug analysis and dosage form evaluation.

Year 3:
In the third year, students tackle more advanced topics such as Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacology I & II, Medication Dispensing and Distribution Systems, Pharmacotherapy series, and Pharmacoeconomics. These modules build an understanding of how drugs behave in the body, therapeutic decision-making, safe dispensing practices, and the economic aspects of healthcare systems.

Year 4:
The final academic year integrates clinical and professional pharmacy training with specialised units such as Toxicology & First-Care, Patient Assessment & Clinical Chemistry, and Medication Information and Literature Evaluation, coupled with electives like Pharmacogenomics and Non-Prescription Drugs. Students apply their cumulative knowledge through clinical case analysis and further prepare for experiential placements.

Professional Practice Experience:
The programme includes a sequence of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences and advanced Hospital, Clinical and Industrial Pharmacy Training, where students apply classroom learning in real clinical and community settings under supervision, reinforcing professional competencies before graduation.
