The BSc (Hons) Construction Management at BCU prepares you to oversee all phases of construction projects—from planning, design, and procurement through to delivery, safety, sustainability and post-construction. It’s ideal if you like managing people and processes, solving technical and financial challenges, and want to combine site knowledge with leadership and coordination skills.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1
You’ll begin with the fundamentals: modules include Introduction to the Built Environment, Built Environment Technology 1, Law, Integrated Digital Design: Residential, Construction Site Management Practice, and Innovation in the Built Environment. These set you up with technical, legal, and digital design skills while giving you hands-on exposure to managing small scale site or residential projects.
Year 2
In the second year, you dive deeper and expand your skills with modules such as Procurement, Civil Engineering, Built Environment Commercial Technology, Integrated Digital Design for Complex Structures, Money Matters in Construction, and Operational Management. You’ll start handling more complex buildings, working with commercial scale technologies, learning about cost/finance and operations challenges. Optionally, you can take a Professional Placement year after year 2 to gain real industry experience.
Final Year
For your final year, you’ll focus on advanced topics and independent work: core modules like Contract Practice, Sustainable Building Design and Construction, Project Management, Bid Strategy and Professional Practice, and a 40-credit Individual Honours Project. These allow you to specialise, lead on a major piece of work, and apply all themes—legal, financial, environmental, technical—in a mature project.
