Curriculum Structure
Year 1
The first year lays the groundwork with core design studios: Architectural Design Studio 1A and 1B, where students learn to visualise spatial ideas and engage with materials, site, and human context. Year 3 (Placement Year)
The third year is dedicated to a Work‑Based Learning (placement) module where students spend 9–12 months working in a real architectural practice or related organisation. They remain Lancaster students during this year, with support from the Careers and Placements Team.
Year 4
Back at Lancaster for the final year, students complete Architectural Design Studio 3A and 3B, in which they take on ambitious design projects that integrate environmental strategy, user experience, and context. They also study Integrated Technology, consolidating their technical knowledge, and Professional Practice, where they learn about ethics, regulation, and the business of architecture. Architectural Humanities 3 encourages critical reflection on architecture’s future and may include a dissertation-style component.
