Program Overview

Product Design at GSA's Innovation School provides a unique and holistic overview of design's role in future society. The BDes and MEDes programmes equip students with a diverse skill set and thorough understanding of design's evolving role as the creative and strategic link between technology and society. Both programmes offer opportunities for international study, as well as the possibility to participate in live projects with businesses and public-sector organisations. As a result, our graduates have a unique, multicultural perspective that prepares them for all sorts of creative possibilities. The Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme challenges conventional perceptions of product design as a solely industrial discipline, focusing instead on reimagining experiences and responding to the complexities of modern life. Our students work beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries and engage with specialist expertise from other domains, such as science, medicine or technology, to create a vision of a better future. You will explore complex social, ethical and environmental issues as subjects for design projects, and will learn how to apply research methods and analytical skills from the social sciences in order to ensure your designs respond to the needs of the people who will use and be affected by them.Through a unique programme of studio-based learning and live projects, you will acquire a wide range of visualisation, communication and material-making skills that will enable you to bring together user insights, expert input and ethnographic information to drive the design and innovation process.
