BA (Hons) Dance

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Chichester

Program Overview

In the first year of your program, you will establish a strong foundation in both practical and theoretical aspects of dance. This will involve participating in daily technique classes and engaging in weekly choreography sessions that foster creativity and exploration of composition.

During your second year, you will have the opportunity to specialize in specific areas of dance practice. This could include focusing on practical elements like repertory, improvisation, physical theatre, and site-specific choreography. Alternatively, you may choose to broaden your understanding of dance theory and its various contexts. This could involve exploring subjects such as dance-specific anatomy, scenography, or popular dance.

As you progress to your third year, you will have the chance to further specialize by selecting modules that align with your desired career path within the dance industry. These modules may be focused on performance, choreography, teaching, dance movement psychotherapy, community dance, production, or administration.

Furthermore, in your third year, you will have the valuable opportunity to undertake a work placement. The placement options available include teaching, gaining professional experience with a dance company, engaging in community work, or working within dance agencies.

Additionally, as part of your final year, you will complete a project that showcases your accumulated knowledge and skills. This project can take various forms, such as a presentation, a written assignment, or a combination of both.
