Program Overview

The BSc Business Analytics at Loughborough develops both the technical and business skills you need to turn data into insight for decision making. It’s suited to students with strong numeracy who want careers in analytics, consulting, supply chain, finance or operations. 


Curriculum Structure

Year 1:
You’ll start with modules like Quantitative Business Skills A/B, Principles of Business Analytics, Programming Fundamentals, and Ethics and Professional Skills. These build foundations in statistics, intro-programming for analytics, the role of business analytics in organisations, and ethical/project work. 

Year 2:
Then you move to more specialised core modules such as Knowledge Data and Information Systems, Operations & Supply Chain Management, Management Science Methods, Managing Big Data, and Data Analysis for Management. This year you deepen data handling, forecasting, optimisation and decision-making skills in a business context. 

Placement / Year 3 (for the 4-year variant):
You take a work placement year (or possibly abroad), applying what you’ve learned in real business environments. This helps you get practical experience, build your CV, and connect with industry. 

Final Year:
In the final year you tackle advanced modules like Strategic Management of Big Data, Advanced Analytics for Web & Social Media, and Data Management & Visualisation. There are also optional modules to tailor your degree. You finish with a capstone or project that integrates your analytics, programming, and business strategy skills.

You will develop practical skills in statistical modelling, data mining, and decision support systems using industry-standard software and tools. This hands-on approach is delivered through:

  • Specialist Analytics Facilities: Access to Loughborough's Business School computing labs equipped with Bloomberg Terminals, statistical software, and data visualisation tools for practical analytics work.

  • Industry-Standard Software: Practical work with analytics programming languages like Python and R, plus business intelligence platforms such as Tableau and database management systems including SQL.

  • Substantial Final Year Project: A major research project where you tackle a substantial business analytics challenge, applying advanced analytical techniques to real organisational data.

  • Practical Case-Based Learning: Group projects using real business datasets that simulate professional analytics consultancy scenarios and decision-making environments.
