Curriculum Structure
The course has a clear pattern:
• Year 1 lays strong foundations in accounting theory, business economics, and statistics.
• Year 2 develops this further with more advanced topics including financial management, corporate governance, and international finance.
• Year 3 pulls it together with modules in auditing, taxation, and strategic management, culminating in a final-year project that encourages independent research and analytical thinking.
The course is created in consultation with industry groups and updated regularly to ensure it reflects progress in the world of finance, so what you learn is always current and applicable.
Learning at London Met is not textbook-based. This course keeps the actual workplace in mind and encourages students to put theory into practice.
• Bloomberg Trading Suite: A unique aspect of the course is access to this market-leading simulation platform. It gives students real-time experience dealing with financial markets and making actual investment choices.
• Work-based Learning Modules: There is the opportunity to take a module with placement experience, undertaking work with an actual business as you apply what you've learned and establish your professional network.
• Guest Lectures and Industry Events: Industry professionals from the likes of KPMG, PwC, and HSBC visit campus on a regular basis to address students, giving an insight into what employers need and how you can best be prepared for your life after leaving university.
• Student Initiative: Students are invited to engage with the Accounting and Finance Society, which involves activities such as competitions, employer networking events, and workshops.
Leavers from this course achieve more than a degree, they get a jump start on their career.
• Graduates are employed in audit, taxation, financial analysis, banking, and consulting, among others, with alumni being placed in UK-based firms as well as international organizations.
• The course is structured to exempt students from certain ACCA, CIMA, and ICAEW exams, significantly speeding up the path to becoming a qualified accountant.
• Others choose to further their education by taking a master's in finance, investment, or economics either at London Met or at top universities in the UK and worldwide.
