The University of Southampton offers a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Financial Technology that is designed to equip students with an in-depth understanding of the financial system and how technology is integrated into finance. This 3-year program provides students with the ability to navigate the complex financial world of markets, banking, and investment management, as well as the emerging field of financial technology (FinTech).
Curriculum Structure:
BSc in Finance and Financial Technology is a mix of good theoretical foundations and practical realities. The curriculum includes:
• Foundational Courses: Basic courses in economics, maths, and business management to provide students with the core skills demanded of the financial sector.
• Core Finance and Financial Technology Courses: Courses that address issues like financial markets, investment analysis, corporate finance, banking regulation, and financial modelling with strong emphasis on the use of technology, e.g., blockchain and AI in finance.
• Practical Application: Theory is applied through case studies, data analysis, and project work so that students are able to have real-world experience of the financial industry.
• Capstone Project: In their final year, students work on a capstone project where they implement the learning to real-world finance and technology issues, typically in conjunction with business sponsors.
Accreditation:
The BSc Finance and Financial Technology is accredited by professional bodies, ensuring that students possess industry skills required for careers in finance and financial technology.

Graduates have gone on to work at multinational firms including Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and PwC, as well as in emerging areas including blockchain development and data science.
Further Academic Progression:
Students may further continue their academic progression by pursuing postgraduate courses such as an MSc in Finance, Financial Technology, Data Science, or an MBA in finance or technology management after completing their BSc.
A Level - Excluded subjects are General Studies. The below subjects are considered as restricted. This means that we can accept one subject from the following list if combined with other academic subjects: Applied subjects, Art (including Design, Fine Art, Photography, Textiles), Communication Studies, Communication and Culture, Creative Media, Creative Writing, Critical Thinking, Dance, Drama, Film Studies, Health & Social Care, Home Economics, Hospitality and Supervision, ICT/IT Leisure Studies, Media Studies, Music Technology, Outdoor Education, PE, Performing Arts, Public Services, Sports Studies/Science, Theatre Studies, Travel & Tourism, World Development.IB - Pass, with 34 points overall with 17 points at Higher Level, including 5 points at Higher Level in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation).
