MA Economics with Management Science

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Edinburgh

Program Overview

This interdisciplinary programme combines the study of economics with fundamental management science modelling techniques and applications. It provides a comprehensive understanding of both subjects, preparing students for technical careers in areas such as business or financial analysis and insurance, or for graduate study in economics or management science. Ranked in the UK's top 10 universities for economics in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025.

The program integrates economic theory with applied quantitative and management science training, progressing in depth and specialization across four years:

Year 1: Students begin with Economics 1, gaining a foundation in micro and macroeconomic principles. This is complemented by a flexible set of optional courses, allowing exploration across disciplines.

Year 2: The focus shifts to Economics 2 and Statistical Methods for Economics, providing intermediate-level theory and quantitative techniques. Students also take Business Analytics and Information Systems and choose between Principles of Finance or Business Economics, along with one elective.

Year 3: Core honours-level modules include Topics in Microeconomics, Topics in Macroeconomics, Essentials of Econometrics, and Applications of Econometrics. In parallel, students study Management Science and Operations Analytics and select one additional honours-level course from either economics or business.

Year 4: The final year emphasizes independent research through the Honours Dissertation. Students also choose between Mathematical Programming in Advanced Analytics or Decision Analytics, and complete three further advanced options—two in economics and one in business.
