You’ll build core marketing knowledge and then spend Year 3 studying marketing in a partner university using your chosen language, graduating with a truly international perspective.

Curriculum structure

Year 1

Your first year mixes foundational marketing theory with a language option, allowing you to begin building fluency in French, German, or Spanish alongside business principles such as digital marketing, consumer behaviour and brand management. You’ll also study important supporting subjects from broader business and management to understand how marketing fits within organisations.

Year 2

In Year 2, marketing studies deepen alongside the compulsory language module. You’ll explore units like consumer behaviour, digital marketing and brand strategy, while your language skills advance through structured modern language coursework. This supports both communication and cultural understanding before your year abroad.

Year 3 (Study Abroad)

This year is all about immersion: you spend the year at an international partner institution, studying marketing-related subjects in your chosen language. It’s a chance to combine academics with cultural and linguistic immersion, enhancing both fluency and global marketing insight.

Returning from abroad, your final year focuses on advanced marketing knowledge. You’ll engage with strategic marketing, digital brand challenges and advanced consumer studies. This year prepares you for professional roles or further study.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

You’ll gain practical skills through group projects, digital marketing simulations, research assignments, and importantly, a full third year spent studying marketing at a partner university abroad. Teaching is based across the Clifton Campus and Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, both offering modern lecture theatres, collaborative learning spaces, and access to career and enterprise events.

So here’s what experiential learning looks like in this programme:

  • Study abroad full year (Year 3): Spend your third year at a partner university overseas, studying marketing in your chosen modern language (e.g., French, German, Spanish, Italian). This immerses you in international business settings and develops your cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Language integration across years: Begin language study in Year 1, continuing alongside marketing modules in Year 2. You’ll complete language-based marketing assignments preparing you for real tasks abroad.
  • Marketing group projects & real-world briefs: Throughout the course, you’ll engage in collaborative case studies, brand campaigns, consumer-behaviour analysis, digital marketing assignments, and strategic planning exercises that reflect industry challenges.
  • Marketing digital and data tools: Coursework includes units in digital marketing, analytics, and consumer behaviour, equipping you with practical skills in tools like Excel, SPSS, and CRM-style platforms.
  • Final-year independent project or dissertation: In your fourth year, undertake a research project on a marketing issue of your choice, applying analytical skills and demonstrating in-depth subject knowledge at an international level.
  • Industry-informed teaching & professional accreditation: Lectures and seminars are delivered by both marketing academics and practitioners. The course holds accreditation from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), offering professional recognition and exemptions towards CIM qualifications.
  • Access to enterprise and career facilities: At Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus and Clifton Campus, you’ll benefit from innovation spaces and employability events such as career fairs, CV workshops, employer networking, and start-up support. The Centre for Study Abroad offers guidance for your international transition.
  • University library & research resources: Access Bristol’s main libraries and study zones to support your marketing research and language learning. The university also offers a rich cultural environment with venues, societies, and interdisciplinary events that enhance your academic experience.
