Program Overview

Information technology has transformed the way in which commerce and industry operate, but it has also provided criminals with a new way of committing crime, either against the computer itself or the information it holds. Digital forensics has been developed in response to this relatively new phenomenon, and major organisations are now reliant on digital forensics professionals to protect their sophisticated computing systems.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

LJMU emphasizes practical experience throughout the program. Students have access to state-of-the-art computing facilities, including a dedicated digital forensics lab equipped with industry-standard software such as FTK, EnCase, Cellebrite, and XRY. The curriculum integrates hands-on experience into modules wherever possible, ensuring that students develop the technical, analytical, and evaluative skills necessary to carry out computer crime investigations within organizations, law enforcement, and national security sectors. Additionally, there is an opportunity to undertake a 12-month paid industrial placement, providing invaluable industry exposure and enhancing employability.
