Artificial Intelligence BSc/MSci

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Glasgow

Program Overview

The Artificial Intelligence BSc/MSci at the University of Glasgow gives you the perfect mix of theory and hands-on experience, helping you understand how AI works and how to apply it in real-world situations. It’s ideal for curious minds who enjoy problem-solving and want to explore areas like machine learning, robotics, and natural language processing.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

In your first year, you'll get the fundamentals in both computing and mathematics. Courses like Computing Science 1P (Standard Route) and Mathematics 1 build the foundations you need to think logically, code effectively, and tackle more complex problems later.

Year 2

The second year dives deeper into AI. You’ll explore Artificial Intelligence (H), learn how to structure and analyse data in Data Structures and Algorithms (H), and strengthen your problem-solving with Discrete Mathematics (H). These courses prepare you for building intelligent systems and understanding how machines “think.”

Year 3

Year three is all about advanced AI. You’ll tackle Machine Learning (H) and Natural Language Processing (H), and work on an individual project that lets you apply what you’ve learned to a real-world challenge. This year really lets you start shaping your own area of expertise.

Year 4

In your fourth year, you can focus on what excites you most. Electives like Computer Vision (M) and Robotics (M) allow you to specialise, while a major project gives you the chance to showcase your skills and make a real contribution to AI research.

Year 5 (MSci Only)

The fifth year is research-heavy. You’ll explore Advanced Topics in AI (M), study AI Ethics and Society (M), and complete a substantial research dissertation. It’s your opportunity to demonstrate independent thinking and push the boundaries of AI knowledge.

Focus Areas

Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Robotics, Computer Vision, AI Ethics

Learning Outcomes

You’ll graduate ready to design and implement AI systems, solve complex problems, conduct research, and understand the ethical and societal impacts of AI technologies.

Professional Alignment

The program is accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS), giving you professional recognition and ensuring your skills are industry-ready.
