BA Hons Physical Education

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Leeds Beckett University

Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Physical Education degree explores how people learn and develop through physical activity, combining theory, research, and hands-on experience. It’s ideal for students passionate about sport, fitness, and teaching, offering a strong foundation for careers in education, coaching, or sport development.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
Your first year introduces you to the core principles of physical education and sport science. Modules such as The Making of Modern PE, Sociology of PE, PE & Sport Pedagogy 1a/1b, Scientific Foundations of Human Movement for PE, and Psychology of Learning will help you understand how physical education influences personal and social development. Practical sessions and workshops link theory directly to teaching and physical activity practice.

Year 2
In your second year, you’ll focus on professional growth and applied learning. Core modules include Professional Development in PE, Research in Practice for PE, and PE & Sport Pedagogy 2. You’ll also explore options that align with your career goals, whether that’s in teaching, coaching, or community sports. This stage encourages reflection and the application of research methods to real-world PE environments.

Year 3
Your final year deepens your expertise and prepares you for the professional world. You’ll complete a Final Year Project in PE and study PE & Sport Pedagogy 3, applying your knowledge in independent or collaborative projects. You’ll also refine leadership and communication skills, preparing for further training such as a PGCE or for roles in physical education, sport, or youth development.

Teaching and learning in physical education, human movement and pedagogy, inclusive and community sport practice, health and wellbeing promotion, and professional research in PE.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates will be able to design and deliver effective PE sessions, apply psychological and scientific principles to teaching, understand educational theory in practice, and evaluate the role of sport in personal and social development.
