4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Wolverhampton

Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Physical Education and School Sport with Foundation Year offers students an additional preparatory year before embarking on the full honours degree. It is designed for those who may not yet meet standard entry requirements or who seek to strengthen their study and subject-knowledge foundations, and who are passionate about teaching, coaching or working in the sports and education sectors.

Curriculum Structure

Foundation Year (Year 0):
In the foundation year, students explore essential academic and subject-specific skills. Modules such as Preparing for Undergraduate Study and Exploring Current Issues in Sport and Physical Activity build academic reading, writing, critical thinking, and introduce key concepts in sport, health and physical activity contexts.
Year 1 (Level 4):
After the foundation year, the first full year of the honours programme begins. Modules include Sport as Subject-Matter for Physical Education (4SR042) and Using Teaching Styles (4SR037) which let students explore how sport functions as a subject in PE, understand learning and teaching styles, and design simple learning activities.
Year 2 (Level 5):
In the second year students deepen pedagogical knowledge and industry engagement. Key modules like Defining Ability in Physical Education and School Sport (5SR037) and Inclusive Physical Education and School Sport (5SR038) focus on designing differentiated learning activities and inclusive practice. The Sport & Physical Activity Industry Experience (5SR035) module affords hands-on placement.
Year 3 (Level 6):
In the final year the focus shifts to leadership, research and professional readiness. Modules such as Applied Pedagogical Practice in Physical Education and School Sport (6SR038) and The Professional Project (6SR019) enable students to engage in independent study, design and lead learning sequences, and prepare for employment in teaching or coaching.
