BA (Hons) Special and Inclusive Education

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Manchester Metropolitan University

Program Overview

This degree is designed for those who are passionate about inclusive education and generating positive change for learners with diverse needs. You’ll study how to create equitable learning pathways, understand neurodiversity, inclusion frameworks, and the practical skills needed to work effectively in special and inclusive educational settings.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1:
You’ll begin by exploring foundational theories of learning and inclusion — modules cover topics such as Theories of Learning and Development, Introduction to Special and Inclusive Education, and Policy and Professional Frameworks in SEND. You’ll build an understanding of the legislative, social and psychological dimensions of inclusion and start developing the professional awareness required for practice.

Year 2:
In your second year you deepen your skills and engage more directly with applied practice and reflection. You’ll take modules like Becoming a ‘Leaderful’ Practitioner in SEND, Inclusive Practice and Neurodiversity, and engage in placements or simulated practice environments that connect theory with professional settings. You’ll also start to analyse assessment, intervention and collaborative working in inclusive contexts.

Year 3:
Your final year is about specialization, leadership and independent inquiry. You will undertake a major project or case study—drawing together your learning in inclusive and special education. You’ll study advanced modules such as Professional Case Studies in Inclusive Education, Research Methods in SEND, and explore strategic and leadership-oriented themes so that you graduate ready to take up meaningful roles in inclusive education.
