Curriculum Structure
Year 1
In your first year you’ll build a strong foundation in education theory and practice: for example, exploring how learners develop, how teaching works in classroom and outdoor settings, and how the National Curriculum is structured within different contexts. You’ll also discover modules that introduce you to the major issues in learning and teaching, setting you up to make informed choices and specialise later.
Year 2
In the second year you’ll deepen your understanding of teaching and learning by looking at methods, contexts and the roles of teacher and learner: you might study topics such as the psychology of learning, assessment strategies, creative and outdoor learning approaches, and how teaching adapts to different backgrounds. You’ll also start preparing for your year abroad by comparing educational settings and cultures.
Year 3 – Year Abroad
Your third year is spent abroad at one of UEA’s partner universities. This immersive experience allows you to observe, learn and engage in a different education system, refine your teaching/learning understanding in a new cultural context and gain the international perspective that makes your CV stand out.
Year 4
In the final year you’ll return to UEA and integrate your international experience into advanced study. Expect modules that challenge you to analyse and design teaching/learning programmes, reflect on your year abroad, and perhaps complete a substantial research or practice-based project in learning and teaching. This year pulls together your knowledge, experience and professional preparation.

Learning and teaching across diverse contexts, curriculum design and delivery, outdoor and arts-based learning, psychology of education, teacher-learner relationships, global perspectives on education (including the year abroad).
Learning outcomes:
You will emerge equipped to critically evaluate how teaching and learning operate in different settings, design and adapt learning experiences, communicate and collaborate effectively across cultural boundaries, and apply these skills in international or UK-based education roles.
Professional alignment (accreditation):
While this programme does not directly lead to UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), it is delivered by UEA’s School of Education and Lifelong Learning and offers strong alignment with teacher-training paths (for example via UEA’s PGCE provision) and other careers in education, training, and learning-development.
