4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Leeds Beckett University

Program Overview

Leeds Beckett University’s MEng Civil Engineering is a four-year integrated master’s degree designed to equip students with advanced technical knowledge and practical skills necessary to become leaders in the civil engineering profession. This course suits those passionate about sustainable infrastructure who want an in-depth understanding of structural, geotechnical, and water engineering, combined with hands-on experience and industry connections to prepare them for Chartered Engineer status.

Curriculum structure

Year 1: In Year 1, students explore fundamental civil engineering concepts through modules like Architecture and Sustainability, Surveying, Construction Technology and Management, Structural Analysis and Design, Materials, Water and Soils, Engineering Mathematics and Modelling, and an Integrated Design Project. You will develop core engineering principles alongside practical surveying and design skills, including a weeklong field course using industry-standard equipment.

Year 2: The second year focuses on consolidating knowledge in Water Engineering and Geotechnics, advanced Mathematics and Modelling, and Integrated Design Project 2, where you enhance your understanding of building information modelling (BIM) and engineering design processes. This stage builds confidence in structural analysis and engineering computations while expanding applied skills.

Year 3: In Year 3, you engage in specialised modules like Water Engineering and Geotechnics 2, Integrated River Management, and Foundations Design, along with a weeklong “Constructionarium” field course offering a hands-on scaled construction experience. Structural and foundation engineering skills deepen, and you tackle real-world challenges simulating professional practice.

Year 4: The fourth year offers Master 's-level, specialist options including Advanced Concrete Design, Structural Retrofitting, Water Resource Management, and a comprehensive Individual Research Project allowing you to explore civil engineering topics in depth. You’ll also undertake an Integrated Design Project focusing on innovative engineering solutions, ensuring you graduate ready to lead complex projects in the field.
