Curriculum Structure

Year 1

Your first year develops essential engineering foundations through modules such as Mathematics for Civil Engineering, Structural and Stress Analysis, Engineering Geology and Soil Mechanics, and Construction Materials. Alongside these, you will take part in an Integrated Design Project, applying your theoretical learning to practical, team-based problem-solving.

Year 2

In the second year, you will advance your technical knowledge with modules in Fluid and Soil Mechanics, Concrete Technology and Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures, and Construction Methods and Technology. This year also introduces environmental perspectives, allowing you to explore how engineering interacts with ecosystems, while a more advanced design project strengthens your practical skills.

Year 3

The third year focuses on specialization, offering core modules such as Environmental Impact Assessment, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, and Transportation and Highway Engineering. You will also complete a substantial Design Project, supported by laboratory and fieldwork, giving you the chance to address complex real-world challenges with sustainable solutions.

It is also designed to meet the requirements of relevant construction management professional bodies.

  • Live Construction Projects: Apply your management skills to real-world scenarios through group projects that often involve live briefs from our industry partners, tackling the planning, budgeting, and logistical challenges of a real construction project.

  • Field Trips and Site Visits: See theory in action through regular visits to major infrastructure and building sites across the South East, observing construction management techniques, ground engineering, and health and safety protocols on live projects.

  • Optional Placement Year: Gain a significant competitive edge by applying for a salaried professional placement year, building your CV and professional network with companies like Balfour Beatty, Costain, or local consulting firms.
