Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence (MEng)

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Southampton

Program Overview

The MEng in Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence at Southampton is an exciting, four-year program that blends core computer science skills with cutting-edge AI knowledge. You’ll learn to create intelligent systems, from smart software to robotics, setting you up for a career in one of the most in-demand fields today.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
You’ll start with the essentials, building a strong foundation in Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence and Computer Engineering I & II and Programming and Algorithms. These modules give you the skills to think logically, code confidently, and solve problems—skills you’ll need throughout your degree. You’ll also take part in projects and group work to get used to collaborating in real-world tech environments.

Year 2
In your second year, you’ll dive deeper with modules like Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Systems, and Software Engineering. These courses help you understand how software and systems work behind the scenes, while hands-on labs and projects give you practical experience in creating robust, efficient programs.

Year 3
Year three is where AI takes center stage. You’ll explore Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Intelligent Agents, learning to build systems that can “think” and make decisions. Through projects and real-world exercises, you’ll apply theory to practice, preparing you for complex AI challenges.

Year 4
The final year is all about specialization and research. Modules like Advanced Machine Learning, Robotics, and AI Ethics let you push the boundaries of what you know. You’ll complete an individual project where you can explore your own ideas, showing off your skills and creativity to future employers.
