Program Overview

The BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire is a three-year full-time degree, extendable to four years if you choose to include a placement year. The programme delivers a strong foundation and advanced applications in areas spanning digital signal processing, VLSI design, robotics, neural networks, power systems, and advanced power conversion and control. Curriculum Structure:

Year 1 (Level 4):
Your first year lays the groundwork in both theoretical and practical engineering. You'll study Engineering Mathematics, Digital Electronic Circuits, Circuit Theory and Analysis, Project Planning and Design, Professional Engineering, Programming, Analogue Circuits and Devices, and Electronic Product Development. These modules equip you with essential mathematical techniques, fundamental circuit knowledge, design methods, and programming skills—all framed within a professional engineering context.

Year 2 (Level 5):
In your second year, you delve deeper into specialist topics. You’ll engage with Signals and Systems, Digital Design and Embedded Systems, Electric Power and Energy Conversion, Analogue and Mixed-Signal Design, Real-Time Systems and Programming, Connected Systems and IoT, Mechatronics, and Communication System Principles. This year develops your competence in embedded systems, real-time programming, IoT integration, mechatronics, and communication methodologies.

Optional Year 
This course offers both a Year in Industry—a practical placement enriching real-world experience before final-year study—and a Year Abroad through credit-bearing exchanges at partner institutions.

Year 3 (Level 6):
Your final year solidifies your learning through advanced technical modules such as Microelectronics and VLSI, Intelligent Systems and Robotics, Digital Communication Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Power Systems and Renewable Energy, and Wireless Networking. The culmination is the BEng Individual Project (Electrical), where you'll design, research, and execute your own engineering innovation.
