Program Overview

Mechanical systems, mechanisms and machines lie at the heart of The traditional engineering industries. The skills and techniques associated with them continue to be essential. In recent years these have extended into the areas of precision engineering, nanotechnology, and mechatronics, as mechanical engineers have broadened their skill sets and embraced technologies from other disciplines to solve difficult problems.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

1. Industrial Placements and Internships
Students are encouraged to gain relevant work experience through summer or year-long placements. The university's dedicated Placement and Internship Officer assists in identifying and securing these opportunities, which often lead to further study and employment. ​

2. Intercalated Year Options
Between years two and three, students may choose to take an intercalated year in industry, research, or study abroad. This additional year is reflected in the degree title and adds practical experience to the academic curriculum. ​

3. Project-Based Learning
Throughout the degree, students engage in projects that develop skills in project management, communication, and the ability to research, design, and develop mechanical engineering products and systems. These projects are integral to the learning process and prepare students for real-world challenges. ​

4. Dedicated Support Services
The university provides access to an exclusive engineering placement, internship, and graduate role vacancy database. Students can book one-on-one appointments with Senior Careers Consultants and Placement and Internship Officers through the myAdvantage platform. Additionally, alumni networking events and industry guest speaker sessions are organized to enhance career prospects

Progression & Future Opportunities

Graduates of the BEng Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Warwick are well-equipped for careers in industries such as automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, energy, and robotics. Many students go on to pursue professional accreditation with the IMechE or further their studies through an MEng or MSc.
