In this course, students are encouraged to explore their imagination without limitations. As members of Roehampton's diverse and enthusiastic community of readers, writers, and thinkers, they will have the opportunity to:

  • Encounter captivating texts and writers from various cultures around the world.

  • Engage with the multicultural aspects of London through the lens of modern fiction, film, and television.

  • Discover insights into gender and sexuality by studying Romantic, Gothic, and Victorian novels.

  • Explore the works of Black writers who have challenged established norms and ideologies.

  • Examine how Shakespeare's plays offer insights into contemporary politics.

  • Delve into the history and future of children's literature.

  • Debate cutting-edge research in fields such as environmental studies, performance, and digital media.

  • Gain practical experience through involvement with Fincham Press, our in-house publisher.

The modules offered in this program aim to prepare students for successful careers after graduation. Through small group discussions and lectures, students will develop the ability to analyze ideas critically, challenge stereotypes and clichés, participate confidently in debates, and communicate their thoughts effectively.

Students will become sophisticated readers, skilled at uncovering hidden meanings in various types of texts, ranging from epic poetry to national advertising campaigns and popular TV shows. They will also refine their professional writing skills and adapt their style to suit different contexts.

Year 1 Entry:

Minimum of 112 UCAS points (or an equivalent qualification)
Students studying T Levels are encouraged to apply.

International Baccalaureate:

Language A (first language): SL grade 4 or HL grade 3
Language B (language acquisition): SL grade 6 or HL grade.

Graduates of this program find employment in various sectors, including the media, cultural heritage, charities, civil service, and industry. They pursue careers as journalists, copywriters, podcasters, librarians, editors, teachers, social media marketers, policy advocates, fundraising strategists, and more. The program equips them with the ability to engage in deep and critical thinking about the surrounding culture and effectively communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.

Support from the career services team is available to students throughout their studies and beyond. They assist in developing CVs, preparing for interviews, and provide opportunities to learn from successful alumni who have excelled in their respective fields. Students also have the chance to collaborate with partner organizations in London and beyond, as well as attend a Roehampton jobs fair where they can explore graduate opportunities and network with potential employers.
