4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program
If you’ve ever wondered why societies work the way they do, this degree is made for you. The Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) course at Manchester Met brings together three powerful disciplines that shape every aspect of our world — from government and global trade to ethics and human behavior. It’s designed for curious thinkers who enjoy asking big questions, debating ideas, and connecting theory to real-world change.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1 – Building Your Foundations
You’ll begin by exploring the core ideas that define each discipline. Courses like A Critical Introduction to the History of Philosophy and The Making of Modern Britain: Political Culture and Society help you understand how ideas and institutions evolve. In Measuring Inequality, you’ll look at real economic data to see how numbers reveal social realities. It’s a year of discovery — learning how thinkers, systems, and economies all connect.
Year 2 – Expanding Your Perspective
As you gain confidence, you’ll dive deeper into specialized topics. Modules such as Formal Logic or Philosophy of Science sharpen your reasoning, while The Politics of Globalisation explores how nations interact in an interconnected world. In Economics, options like Econometrics and Environmental Economics teach you to analyze problems with both data and empathy — combining hard evidence with human insight.
Year 3 – The Placement Year
Here’s where the classroom meets the real world. You’ll spend a full year working with an organization in the UK or abroad — gaining valuable experience in government, NGOs, consultancy, or business. The placement gives you practical skills, professional connections, and a clearer sense of where your PPE background can take you.
Year 4 – Specialization and Reflection
You’ll return to campus with new confidence and focus. This is your chance to specialize — maybe through a dissertation in Philosophy and Politics of Nationalism or an applied Economics project like Money, Banking & Financial Markets. You’ll finish the degree with a strong analytical mindset, a global outlook, and the ability to connect abstract thinking with real-world solutions.
Focus Areas:
Philosophy of ethics and mind | Global politics and public policy | Economic systems, inequality, and sustainability
Learning Outcomes:
You’ll learn to think critically and logically, analyze global systems through both philosophical and economic lenses, evaluate real-world policies, and communicate complex ideas clearly — skills that employers truly value.
Professional Alignment (Accreditation):
This program includes a structured placement year and is built with strong industry and public-sector links. The University’s Career and Employability Service will help you secure internships, placements, or research opportunities tailored to your interests.
