BA Hons International Tourism Management

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Manchester Metropolitan University

Program Overview

Manchester Metropolitan University has a BA (Hons) in International Tourism Management, designed to prepare students for the fast-changing worldwide travel and tourism industry. It merges business management skills with specialist skills in tourism, events, and hospitality to help students understand the realities and strategic needs of the industry. Highly international in focus, the course places the student in a position to address challenges such as sustainability, digital transformation, and shifting consumer patterns in tourism.

The programme is structured over a period of three years of study:

Year 1: Students are introduced to the basics of tourism management, and an appreciation of international tourism systems, consumer behavior, and the economic, cultural, and environmental importance of tourism is developed. Fundamental business disciplines such as marketing, management principles, and finance are introduced to create a solid foundation.

Year 2: This continues on to more specialist subjects, e.g., strategic tourism planning, world destination management, and digital marketing for tourism. Students also start to explore optional modules of interest, for instance, sustainable tourism or event management. There is also practice to theory, by means of case studies and group projects of real-world issues.

Year 3: During the final year, students study more sophisticated subjects like international tourism strategy, leadership, and global tourism policy. The focal point is the final-year consultancy project or dissertation, which allows students to carry out independent research or work with an industry client on an actual project. This year allows students to extend further their critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills to prepare for employment.
