Tourism Management BA Honours

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Westminster

Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Tourism and Events Management at the University of Westminster is a degree for those who want to create a career in the evolving and dynamic tourism and events industry. The course integrates theoretical study with practice in order to prepare students not only to understand how the global tourism industry operates, but also how events shape communities, economies, and cultures.

The course is structured over the course of three years, giving students an adequate foundation in the first year, more knowledge and specialisation in the second year, and preparation for career and application in the third year.

Year 1: Students are introduced to the basics of tourism and events and how the industry works in the UK and globally. Modules focus on fundamental business management, marketing, and the role of tourism within society, introducing event planning principles. Confidence building and understanding the size of the industry is what this year is all about.

Year 2: The second year moves more towards specialist and analytical subject matter. Students learn about the strategic and operational roles of tourism businesses and events management, and learn about key issues such as sustainability and destination development. Applied projects are offered, where students research case studies or theoretical event scenarios.

Year 3: The third year is designed to pull everything together. Students complete a big independent project or dissertation, though within this their topic area must be aligned with their potential future career. Modules also study worldwide trends for tourism and events, preparing graduates for management roles. Employability is also addressed in this year, with the opportunity to bridge classroom-based learning to practice.
