BA in History Literature and Culture

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Brighton

Program Overview

This program is designed for students who wish to explore and analyze significant contemporary issues, including but not limited to gender, race, and class, while also examining the influence of history and literature on our perceptions of the world.

Throughout the course, you will delve into subjects such as the politics of race and colonialism, the impact of gender on the marginalization or empowerment of writers and activists, and the role of cultural mediums like novels and films in relation to power dynamics.

Under the guidance of our expert faculty, you will critically examine past and present societies, gaining an understanding of how political responses to inequalities have shaped our accepted societal norms. You will engage with a diverse range of literature that challenges conventional ideas of what is considered "normal."

Class sizes for the History, Literature, and Culture degree program are intentionally kept small to foster discussions, but you will also be part of a vibrant community encompassing other humanities courses. In addition to scheduled lectures, we offer a comprehensive schedule of events that feature guest speakers participating in debates on contemporary philosophy, politics, and ethics.
