UEA’s BA (Hons) History and Politics with a Year Abroad is a four-year program that combines the study of historical events with political analysis, alongside the unique opportunity to spend a year at one of UEA’s partner institutions abroad. Curriculum Structure:

Year 1:
You’ll start by building a strong foundation with core modules such as The Age of Extremes: World History Since 1914, Understanding Politics Today: Approaches, Issues and Case Studies, and Power, (Dis)order & Security: Understanding Global Politics 1. These courses introduce key historical events and political ideas, preparing you for more advanced study.

Year 2:
The second year allows for more specialized study, with modules like Analysing International Relations: From Realism to Postcolonialism, Introduction to Data Analysis for Politics and International Relations, and Worldbuilding: International Systems Throughout History. You can also select optional modules that align with your personal interests.

Year 3 (Year Abroad):
In your third year, you’ll spend 9–12 months at a partner university abroad. This experience gives you the chance to immerse yourself in a new culture, gain international academic exposure, and develop a global perspective on history and politics.

Year 4:
The final year focuses on independent research and specialization. You’ll complete a Dissertation or Research Project in Politics and International Relations, alongside optional modules such as Politics and Popular Culture, Better Worlds? Utopias and Dystopias, and Digital Politics, allowing you to tailor your studies to your career goals.
