The BSc Hons Biomedical Sciences at the University of Dundee gives you a powerful, research-led education—spanning from molecular biology to whole body systems—to understand human health and disease. Curriculum Structure

Year 1
You’ll begin with key foundational topics including genetics, cell biology, biological organisation, and molecular mechanisms and processes. Alongside theory, you'll build essential practical capabilities—lab techniques, experiment design, and data analysis—through core modules such as Core Skills in the Life Sciences and The Building Blocks of Life.

Year 2
The second year continues the core curriculum, maintaining breadth while enhancing depth. You’ll study modules on Statistics and Experimental Design, Cellular Communication, Human Physiology & Pharmacology, and Biomolecular Mechanisms. Optional choices like Organic Chemistry for the Life Sciences, Introductory Programming for Life Sciences, and Developing Scientific Enterprise allow you to tailor your experience.

Year 3
In your third year, you’ll focus on systems-level physiology through core modules such as Cardiovascular, Respiratory, and Renal Systems, Neurophysiology, Endocrine & Gastrointestinal Systems, and Pharmacology. You’ll continue honing research skills via Research Skills 3A, and choose options like Cancer Biology & Research, Immunology, Neuropharmacology, Developmental Biology, or Molecular Microbiology, depending on your emerging interests.

Year 4
The final year is all about independent research and specialist knowledge. You’ll work on an Honors-level research project through Research Project: Biomedical Sciences, supported by a Research Skills module. Optional modules include topics like Advanced Immunology, Cancer Biology, Stem Cells in Development & Disease, Advanced Cell Signalling, Advanced Bioinformatics, and Heart & Circulation, deepening your expertise in a preferred field.


Focus Areas:
Genetics, cell biology, molecular mechanisms, physiology, pharmacology, neurophysiology, as well as specialized areas such as immunology, cancer biology, developmental biology, stem cells, and advanced research techniques.
