Curriculum Structure

Year 1:
In your first year, you’ll build a solid foundation in midwifery practice. Through units like Midwifery Practice 1A and 1B, you’ll develop practical skills in clinical settings, while Childbirth Journeys helps you understand the physical and emotional aspects of childbirth. Units such as Fundamental Midwifery Care, Promoting Health, and Foundations for Professional Practice and Research introduce you to safe care practices, health promotion, and the basics of professional and research principles.

Year 2:
Your second year focuses on applying and expanding your skills in more complex scenarios. Midwifery Practice 2A and 2B give you further clinical exposure, while Medicines Optimisation and the Midwife teaches safe medication management. Complexities in Midwifery Care covers challenging situations in practice, and Local, National and Global Health explores health issues on a broader scale. You’ll also enhance your research skills through Research for Professional Practice.

Year 3:
The final year prepares you for professional practice and leadership. Innovation in Midwifery Care encourages creative approaches to patient care, while Team Working for Service Improvement emphasizes collaboration. Evidence for Midwifery Practice strengthens your research application skills, and Care in Midwifery Emergencies readies you to handle critical situations confidently. Leadership and innovation are further developed in Leadership and Innovation in Midwifery Care, and Childbirth Journeys revisits childbirth from an advanced perspective.

Additional Information & Requirements

A-levels: Applied Human Biology, Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Health & Social Care, Human Biology, Physics, Psychology, Sociology.
GCSE: English Language or English Literature and Mathematics grade 4 (or grade C in the old grading system). We also accept iGCSEs, Key Skills and Functional Skills and other qualifications at Level 2 of the National Qualifications Framework.
International Baccalaureate (Diploma): 31 to 34 points. If you don’t achieve the full International Baccalaureate Diploma and would still like this to be considered on your Higher and Standard Level Certificates,
Indian boards : You can apply to study a Bachelor’s degree from year one if you hold a Higher Secondary School Certificate/Standard XII and have achieved an average percentage of at least 65% (although some courses will require this to be higher).
American curriculum : You can apply to study a Bachelor’s degree from year one if you hold a High School Graduation Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0, plus at least one of the following: SAT Reasoning tests SATR tests are accepted only on courses in which all subjects are considered. You will need a combined score between 1200 and 1300. The required score will vary according to the course applied for. American College Tests ACT tests are accepted only on courses in which all subjects are considered. You will need a combined score between 24 and 26, depending on the course applied for. Advanced Placement tests.
IELTS : overall 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in writing and 6.5 in all other components TOEFL : 79-93
This course requires 128–144 UCAS tariff points (A-level grades ABB-AAA) to include a minimum of two A-levels or equivalent, including 32 points in a required subject.
