Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Building Core Nursing Foundations

Your first year focuses on the essential skills every adult nurse needs. You’ll study Developing Skills for Practice to learn nursing interventions and person-centred care, while Human Sciences provides the bioscience knowledge that underpins safe practice. You’ll also start Nursing Practice placements, gaining early exposure to real patient care, and develop your academic and research skills through Research Methods (1).

Year 2 – Advancing Care and Community Insight

In your second year, you’ll deepen your clinical competence with Enhancing Skills for Adult Nursing, applying theory to patient assessment, care planning, and decision-making. Nursing in Society broadens your understanding of community and public health, and Pharmacology and Prescribing Ready gives you the knowledge to use medicines safely. Research Methods (2) continues to develop your ability to evaluate evidence and inform your practice.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At Brunel, nursing isn’t just about sitting in lectures — it’s about learning by doing. Around half of your time on this course is spent in real healthcare settings, working alongside professional nurses and other healthcare staff, while the other half is spent practising your skills in purpose-built on-campus facilities.
