Curriculum Structure
Year 1 – Building your foundations
In your first year, you’ll get to grips with the science behind nursing and start developing essential practical skills. Applied Life Sciences for Nursing Practice covers anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, while Introduction to Adult Nursing introduces person-centred care, clinical skills, and the nursing role in today’s healthcare environment. You’ll also explore Public Health, learning how social and environmental factors influence wellbeing, and gain your first taste of practice through Practice Assessment Module Part 1, reflecting on your hands-on experience.
Year 2 – Putting knowledge into practice
Year 2 is all about applying what you’ve learned in real-life scenarios. Adult Nursing 1 helps you recognise and respond to acute illness, while Adult Nursing 2 focuses on caring for patients with long-term conditions in community and hospital settings. Evidence-Based Healthcare for Nursing Practice teaches you how to use research to inform care, and Pharmacology for Nursing Practice ensures you understand safe medicine management. Clinical placements continue through Practice Assessment Module Part 2, and optional modules such as Global Health or Wound Management let you explore areas that interest you.
Year 3 – Becoming a professional nurse
Your final year prepares you to step confidently into the nursing profession. Becoming a Registrant focuses on your transition to professional practice, while Collaborative Learning and Teaching in Practice hones your teamwork and communication skills. Complex Care for Adult Nursing equips you to manage patients with multifaceted needs, and Leading Care for Adult Nursing develops your leadership and decision-making skills.
