The BSc (Hons) Nursing (Mental Health) Degree Apprenticeship at Liverpool John Moores University gives you the chance to earn while you learn, preparing you to become a fully qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse in just 37 months. This program is perfect for anyone who is passionate about supporting people through mental health challenges and wants hands-on experience in real healthcare settings from the very start.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1
Your first year focuses on building a strong foundation in nursing practice and understanding what it really means to care for others. You’ll study Professional Practice in Nursing, Person-centred Nursing Care, and Promoting Health and Preventing Ill Health, which will help you develop essential skills in communication, teamwork, and supporting patients’ wellbeing. Early clinical placements through Introduction to Practice Learning give you the chance to apply what you learn in real-life settings, helping you gain confidence and see how theory meets practice.
Year 2
In your second year, the program dives deeper into mental health nursing. Modules like Assessment in Mental Health Nursing, Complexities in Mental Health Nursing Care, and Interprofessional Collaboration in Nursing help you develop the ability to assess patients’ needs, create care plans, and work effectively within healthcare teams. You’ll also explore Health Promotion and Health Policy and Nursing Practice within Legal and Ethical Frameworks, giving you a clear understanding of the wider systems, policies, and ethical responsibilities that shape mental health care.
Year 3
Your final year is all about preparing you to take the next step as a confident, independent practitioner. You’ll focus on Person Centred Care Planning, Leadership and Quality Enhancement, and Managing Risk in Mental Health Nursing, while also exploring Health Economics and Health Policy and Nursing Interventions and Prescriber Readiness. Advanced placements through Advancing Practice Learning let you consolidate your skills, lead care planning, and take charge of complex situations, so you graduate ready to register as a Mental Health Nurse.
