4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Chester

Program Overview

The Learning Disability and Children’s Nursing MNurs (Hons) at Chester gives you a unique opportunity to train in two highly rewarding areas of nursing at the same time. You’ll gain the skills, confidence, and compassion needed to care for children, young people, and adults with learning disabilities — preparing you for a flexible, meaningful career both in the UK and internationally.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
In your first year, you’ll start blending theory with hands-on practice. Modules like Applied Anatomy, Physiology and Integrated Pharmacology give you a solid understanding of the human body and how medicines affect health, while Practice Learning 1 lets you begin applying person-centered care principles in real healthcare settings.

Year 2
Year two builds on your foundation and broadens your skills. You’ll study Interprofessional Research & Innovation to understand how teamwork and evidence improve care, and Applied Sciences in the Learning Disability Field to apply scientific knowledge directly to practice. You’ll also continue developing your clinical confidence through supervised placements.

Year 3
By year three, you’ll focus on advanced nursing practice and professional readiness. Modules such as Prescribing Ready and Advancing Leadership and Supervision enhance your clinical reasoning and leadership skills. Practice Learning 3 gives you the chance to take on more complex responsibilities in learning disability nursing.

Year 4
In your final year, you’ll specialise in Children’s Nursing, completing modules like Practice Learning 3 Children’s Nurse and Applied Sciences in Children’s Field, where you’ll learn to care for infants, children, and young people confidently. Engaging with Masters Study helps sharpen your critical thinking and evidence-based practice skills, preparing you for further study if you choose.
