Program Overview

The Nursing BN (Hons) at the University of Glasgow is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become a compassionate, professional nurse. Curriculum Structure

Year 1
In your first year, you’ll get a strong grounding in the sciences, including anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and biochemistry, alongside social sciences and the basics of nursing care. Early clinical placements give you your first taste of working with patients, helping you start building practical skills and understanding what nursing looks like in the real world.

Year 2
Your second year deepens your nursing knowledge and scientific understanding. You’ll explore pharmacology, genetics, and advanced physiology, while also studying nursing theory, research methods, and social policy. Year 3
In year three, you focus on applying your knowledge to deliver holistic, evidence-based care. Modules on human disease, pathology, and pharmacotherapy prepare you to care for patients with a range of conditions, while clinical placements give you hands-on experience in planning, delivering, and evaluating care.

Year 4
The final year broadens your perspective to leadership, professionalism, and global health challenges. You’ll complete a dissertation on a nursing topic of your choice and undertake your final clinical placements, bringing together everything you’ve learned to step confidently into your career as a fully qualified nurse.
