Curriculum structure

Year 1
In your first year, you’ll focus on the fundamentals of nursing. Through Foundations of Nursing Practice and your first clinical placement, you’ll start applying these skills in real healthcare settings.

Year 2
Your second year builds on this foundation with more in-depth clinical knowledge. You’ll study Application of Evidence-Based Practice for Nurses to integrate research into everyday care and Holistic Nursing for Altered Physiology to Promote Wellbeing to understand how diseases affect patients’ lives. During your second placement, you’ll begin to plan and implement care more independently, with guidance from experienced professionals.

Year 3
In your final year, the focus shifts to leadership, advanced clinical skills, and professional development. Your Dissertation allows you to explore a topic that interests you, while Leadership and Interprofessional Learning develops your teamwork and leadership abilities. Practice Placement 3 offers your most extensive clinical experience, preparing you to confidently start your career as a registered nurse.

  • Living Lab simulation facility: Practice in immersive environments with mock hospital wards, clinical skills spaces, and OSCE stations to rehearse patient care scenarios safely.

  • Helen McArdle House: Features a mock patient ward, Mental Health and Wellbeing Suite, and diagnostic spaces to prepare you for real-life placements.

  • Advanced simulation technology: Use manikins such as SimMan 3G, SimMan ALS, SimJunior, and SimBaby, which respond like real patients, helping you build clinical reasoning and confidence.

  • Interprofessional learning: Collaborate with students from other health disciplines through simulation days and group projects, developing teamwork and communication skills vital for healthcare.

  • Library and digital resources: Access extensive print and electronic nursing materials, as well as healthcare databases, to support your learning and research.
