Program Overview

If you want to make a real difference in people’s lives, the BNurs (Hons) Adult Nursing at the University of Wolverhampton is designed for you. This programme equips you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to deliver safe, person-centred care to adults across hospitals, community settings, and specialist units.

Curriculum structure:
Year 1: Your first year lays the foundation for adult nursing. You’ll explore Foundations of Healthcare Practice, The Human Life Journey, and Enhancing Safety and Quality of Care in Adult Nursing, giving you an understanding of how adults experience health, illness, and recovery while preparing you for your first practice placements.

Year 2: In your second year, you’ll focus more on applying your knowledge in real-life care settings. Modules like Skills for Safe and Effective Practice, Working in Partnership to Prioritise Care, and The Reflective Practitioner will help you develop clinical decision-making, leadership, and teamwork skills as you spend more time in placements.

Year 3: Your final year integrates everything you’ve learned and prepares you to graduate as a registered nurse. You’ll study advanced adult health modules, including complex care, pharmacology, and leadership in practice, while completing extensive placements to ensure you’re confident and practice-ready.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At Wolverhampton, nursing is all about doing, not just listening. From your very first year, you’ll practise real-life nursing skills in state-of-the-art simulation labs and take part in placements in hospitals, community teams, and care homes. You’ll use advanced digital tools, reflect on your own performance, and work alongside students from other health and social care programmes — all designed to make sure you feel confident, capable, and ready for professional practice.

Here’s what that looks like in action:

  • Immersive simulation and skills labs: Practice in mock hospital wards, a mock bedsit, terraced-house settings, and use an anatomage table to gain hands-on experience in realistic scenarios.

  • Digital tools & video feedback: Record your simulations with Panopto to watch and reflect on your performance, helping you improve continuously.

  • Real-world placements: Gain practical experience across hospital wards, community teams, and residential homes, including opportunities with six NHS trusts, so you see a variety of adult nursing environments.

  • Inter-professional and community care settings: Work alongside students from other health and social care disciplines and learn to provide care in both acute and community settings.

  • Virtual Learning Environment (Canvas): Access interactive scenarios, learning resources, and reflective activities anytime online, giving you flexibility to learn at your own pace.
