The MNurs (Adult) at York is a four-year integrated master’s programme that trains you to become a fully qualified adult nurse. Curriculum Structure

Year 1
In your first year, you’ll build the foundations of nursing, focusing on the science of health and wellbeing alongside essential professional skills. Modules like Biological and Pharmacological Aspects of Health and Wellbeing, Psychological and Sociological Aspects of Health and Wellbeing, and Professional Development in Nursing: Introduction to Nursing Inquiry introduce you to human biology, psychology, and the basics of safe, compassionate care. You’ll also begin practical training with Knowledge Applied to Nursing Practice 1 & 2, giving you hands-on exposure in a supportive environment.

Year 2
The second year shifts focus to understanding illness and learning how to respond effectively. Through modules such as Biological and Pharmacological Aspects of Illness across the Lifespan, Psychological and Sociological Aspects of Ill-health, and Evidence-Based Nursing for Practice, you’ll learn to assess health conditions and provide person-centred care. Knowledge Applied to Nursing Practice 3 & 4 continues your clinical training, helping you gain confidence in real-world settings.

Year 3
In year three, you’ll start caring for patients with more complex needs while developing leadership skills. Modules like Person-centred Consultation and Physical Assessment Skills, Applying Psychological and Sociological Aspects to Complex Care, and Professional Development in Nursing: Leading and Managing Change refine your ability to make informed, safe decisions and support patients holistically. Knowledge Applied to Nursing Practice 5 & 6 gives you further hands-on experience in clinical placements.

Year 4
The final year brings together everything you’ve learned, preparing you for professional practice. Advancing Evidence-Based Practice and Implementing Research into Practice and Enhanced Patient Assessment and Clinical Decision-making Skills develop your critical thinking and leadership skills. Knowledge Applied to Nursing Practice 7 & 8 ensures you graduate confident, competent, and ready to take on the responsibilities of a registered adult nurse.
