Curriculum structure
Year 1
Your first year builds the scientific base you’ll rely on throughout the degree. Modules such as Introduction to Nutrition, Introduction to Biochemistry for Health Sciences, Food Science & Technology, and Physiology for Nutrition Students help you understand the biology of the human body, the chemistry of nutrients, and the science behind food processing. You’ll also explore Genetics & Molecular Biology and Social & Psychological Studies, linking nutrition to behaviour and society.
Year 2
In your second year, you begin to deepen and specialise. You’ll take Advanced Human Nutrition to see how nutrients interact with physiology, and Nutritional Epidemiology to understand population-level dietary patterns and health outcomes. Modules like Food Choice & Eating Behaviour and Food Policy & Regulation introduce the wider context — from why people eat the way they do to how governments and industries regulate what ends up on our plates.
Year 3 (with optional industry year)
Your final year is where everything comes together. A major Research Project gives you the chance to investigate a topic in depth, working alongside leading academics. You’ll also study applied topics such as Clinical Nutrition, Nutrition & Public Health, and Applied Nutrition, plus optional specialist modules. If you choose the additional industry year, you’ll gain real-world work experience in a professional nutrition setting — a valuable boost for your CV.
At King’s, you’ll learn by doing — from running experiments in specialist labs to testing ideas in the “Living Laboratory.” You can also take on placements, research projects, and professional workshops that give you a real edge in the nutrition field.
Graduates from King’s Nutrition BSc step into exciting roles in the food industry, public health, government, NGOs, and even media. Common career paths include Nutrition Scientist, Public Health Nutritionist, Food Policy Advisor, or roles in food product development.
