Curriculum Structure

Year 1
In your first year, you’ll build a strong foundation in both human biology and nutrition. You’ll explore the essentials of food composition and digestion in Principles of Food and Nutrition and Principles of Human Nutrition, while learning how to assess nutritional status in Nutritional Assessment. Introduction to Human Biology gives you an overview of the human body’s structure and function, setting you up for more advanced study.

Year 2
Year two takes you deeper into specialized areas. Advanced Human Biology looks at the molecular and cellular mechanisms that keep us healthy, while Food Product Development teaches you how to design new, nutritious food products. Public Health Nutrition gives you insight into strategies for improving nutrition at a community and population level.

Year 3
In your final year, you’ll have the chance to focus on your own interests through the Independent Research Project, conducting hands-on research under the guidance of experienced tutors. Advanced Topics in Human Biology covers current research and genetic influences on health, and Nutrition and Disease explores how diet can prevent or manage illness.
